Day 1Arrival in Ulaanbaatar

Arrive at Chinggis Khaan International Airport, where your guide will warmly welcome you. Transfer to your hotel in Ulaanbaatar and enjoy a relaxing evening. Depending on your arrival time, you may explore the city on your own or rest after your flight.

Day 2Ulaanbaatar → Baga Gazriin Chuluu

Begin your adventure by taking the wheel of your 4×4, departing Ulaanbaatar toward the Middle Gobi. The drive includes approximately 260 km of asphalt roads, gradually transitioning into rugged sand tracks—an ideal introduction to self-driving in Mongolia.
Arrive at Baga Gazriin Chuluu, a dramatic granite massif rising from the open steppe. Explore rocky valleys and unique desert scenery.

Day 3Baga Gazriin Chuluu → Tsagaan Suvarga (White Stupa)

Drive approximately 254 km off-road across vast open steppe to Tsagaan Suvarga, a stunning escarpment of wind-carved cliffs formed from an ancient seabed. Walk along the cliffs and enjoy sweeping desert panoramas, especially magical at sunrise and sunset.

Day 4Tsagaan Suvarga → Yol Valley

Continue your off-road journey (approx. 240 km), traveling deep into the Gobi steppe. Wildlife sightings, photography stops, and open desert exploration punctuate the route.
Arrive at Yol Valley, a dramatic canyon in the Three Beauties Mountains, known for towering cliffs, unique flora, and wildlife.

Day 5Yol Valley → Khongor Sand Dunes

Travel 140 km on paved roads, followed by a 40 km off-road journey along rocky tracks through the dramatic Three Beauties Mountains. After crossing the mountains, continue over sandy tracks toward the magnificent Khongor Sand Dunes.

Depending on your arrival time, enjoy a Bactrian camel ride near the iconic dunes, hike up the sand dunes, and take photos of the spectacular desert landscape. If the arrival time is not suitable, these activities will be arranged the following morning. Spend the night at a ger camp near Khongor Sand Dunes.

Day 6Khongor Sand Dunes → Bayanzag (Flaming Cliffs)

Depart Khongor Sand Dunes and travel approximately 150 km along remote off-road desert tracks to Bayanzag, also known as the Flaming Cliffs. Explore the striking red sandstone formations, learn about Roy Chapman Andrews and Mongolia’s important dinosaur fossil discoveries, and enjoy the dramatic desert scenery. Spend the night in the wilderness near the Flaming Cliffs.

Day 7Bayanzag → Ongi Monastery

Depart the Flaming Cliffs and travel approximately 170 km along remote off-road desert and open steppe tracks toward Ongi Monastery. Once one of Mongolia’s largest Buddhist centers, the monastery was home to hundreds of monks. Explore the atmospheric ruins and restored temples set along the Ongi River.

Day 8Ongi Monastery → Orkhon Waterfall

Embark on a thrilling 340 km journey along remote off-road desert and open steppe tracks, witnessing Mongolia’s dramatic transition from rugged arid landscapes to lush green valleys. Arrive at the breathtaking Orkhon Waterfall in the heart of the UNESCO-listed Orkhon Valley, where cascading water flows between striking basalt cliffs and peaceful grasslands.

Day 9Orkhon Waterfall → Tuvkhun Monastery Area (Nomadic Experience)

Travel approximately 150 km along scenic steppe tracks through the Orkhon Valley, crossing rivers and observing the changing landscapes and traditional nomadic way of life. Visit a local nomadic family, learn about their daily routines and customs, and spend meaningful time experiencing their warm hospitality.

Day 10Tuvkhun Monastery → Tsenkher Hot Spring

After breakfast, continue approximately 200 km to Tsenkher Hot Spring. Unwind in natural mineral-rich geothermal waters surrounded by peaceful forests and rolling mountain meadows—an ideal place to relax and recharge after days of adventure.

Day 11Tsenkher Hot Spring (Horseback Riding Day)

Enjoy a full day immersed in Mongolia’s natural beauty with a relaxed horseback riding experience, exploring scenic valleys, open grasslands, and the surrounding landscapes at a comfortable pace.

Day 12Tsenkher Hot Spring → Kharkhorin

Drive approximately 160 km to Kharkhorin, the former capital of the Mongol Empire. Visit the historic Erdene Zuu Monastery and explore archaeological remains connected to the era of Chinggis Khan. Continue another 100 km to the scenic Elsen Tasarkhai sand dunes, where you can explore the surrounding steppe and desert landscapes before spending the night camping beneath Mongolia’s starlit sky.

Day 13Kharkhorin → Khustai National Park

Drive 300 km to Khustai National Park, a protected steppe reserve renowned for the successful reintroduction of the rare Przewalski’s horse. Explore the park in your self-drive 4WD vehicle, searching for wild horses, deer, marmots, and other native wildlife while enjoying the vast open landscapes and a memorable sunset over the Mongolian steppe.

Day 14Khustai National Park → Ulaanbaatar

Spend the morning observing wildlife and open steppe scenery before driving approximately 100 km back to Ulaanbaatar, concluding your epic self-drive expedition.

Day 15Departure Day – Transfer to the Airport

Enjoy a relaxed morning before your private transfer to Chinggis Khaan International Airport. Your guide and chauffeur will assist with check-in and luggage as you prepare for your journey home.
