In July 2025, the visit of Japan`s Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako to Mongolia became an unforgettable moment in history. It was not only a milestone in diplomacy but also a living symbol of friendship, respect, and shared values between Japan and Mongolia.
Throughout their visit, Their Majesties showed remarkable politeness, kindness, and genuine respect for Mongolian culture. They warmly greeted children, smiled at families, and listened attentively to those they met. These gestures, though simple, touched the hearts of the Mongolian people deeply. Many were reminded of Japan’s generous support in times when Mongolia needed a helping hand, and the gratitude resurfaced with even greater warmth.
One of the most powerful images of the visit was in Ulaanbaatar’s Central Square. A large portrait of the Emperor and Empress was displayed with honor, and Mongolian citizens—dressed in their finest traditional attire—gathered with pride and excitement to welcome them. The cheers, smiles, and heartfelt atmosphere in the square reflected not just celebration, but also a deep sense of connection and respect.

For the Japanese people, the visit presented Mongolia not just as a distant land of the steppe, but as a neighbor with warmth, dignity, and shared history. For Mongolians, welcoming the Emperor and Empress was a source of national pride and a reaffirmation of the deep friendship that binds the two nations.
At Nomad Trail, we take pride in building on this bridge of friendship. Our fluent Japanese-speaking guide, born and raised in Mongolia but educated in Japan, embodies the best of both worlds. With deep knowledge of Japanese culture and language, combined with an authentic understanding of Mongolian traditions, cuisine, and hidden gems, our guide helps visitors discover Mongolia in a way that feels both comfortable and meaningful.
As our guide, Ama, shared:
“Japanese people are doing fantastic in separating trash and recycling. We Mongolians have so much to learn from them. In our remote and sacred landscapes, we often don’t even have trash cans. That is why our company is trying hard to create minimal-style journeys and produce less waste during our adventures.”
This philosophy reflects our commitment not only to cultural exchange, but also to sustainable, respectful travel. We want every guest to experience Mongolia’s vast beauty, rich heritage, and thrilling adventures while feeling safe, cared for, and connected to both nature and people.
Explore Mongolia responsibly with a family-owned company that cares about culture, nature, and communities.
