Itinerary

Day 1Arrival

Upon arrival in Ulaanbaatar by air or train, you will be welcomed by your guide and driver and transferred to your hotel. You can choose between a half-day or full-day city tour, both with a private car, English-speaking guide, and no additional cost.

Half-day city tour: Explore iconic Sukhbaatar Square, the National History Museum or Genghis Khan Museum. Meals: Dinner.

Full-day city tour: Visit Sukhbaatar Square, the National History Museum or Genghis Khan Museum, Zaisan Memorial Hill for a stunning panoramic view of Ulaanbaatar, and the Winter Palace of Mongolia’s last king. Meals: Lunch, Dinner.

Day 2Dund Gobi / Baga Gazriin Chuluu 130miles/220 km

Day 3Dund Gobi / Tsagaan Suvarga 149miles/280 km

Day 4South Gobi / Yol Valley 170miles/280km

Continue your journey south and arrive at the Three Beauties Mountain Range in the heart of the Gobi Desert. After an early breakfast, embark on a 4-5 hour drive by 4WD to Khongoryn Els, home to Mongolia’s largest sand dunes. Experience the breathtaking desert scenery and explore the towering dunes both by vehicle and on foot. The round-trip hike takes approximately two hours, with an option to climb to the summit for panoramic views. Day 6South Gobi / Bayanzag 90miles/150 km

Journey to the legendary Flaming Cliffs (Bayanzag), renowned for being the site of Mongolia’s first major paleontological discoveries. Explore this historic location, retracing the footsteps of Roy Chapman Andrews (1884–1960), the famed American explorer, adventurer, and naturalist. Meals: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner

Day 7Dund Gobi / Ongi Monastery 90miles/150 km

Spend the day traveling towards the banks of the Ongii River, a 4-5 hour journey that includes traversing rugged trails across vast dry plains with no direct roads. Upon arrival, check into your Ger camp near the river and explore the ruins of two historic monasteries—Barlim Khiid in the north and Khutagt Khiid in the south. Together, they form the Ongiin Khiid Monastery complex, a site of great cultural and historical significance. Meals: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner

Day 8Karakorum, Erdene-Zuu Monastery 180miles/300km

After breakfast, travel to Karakorum, the former capital of the 13th-century Great Mongol Empire.
